Megan Taylor
TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF
Hi everyone! I’m Megan, and I lead Rooted Birth. I have been a doula and childbirth educator in the San Antonio area since 2017. I am also a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist and I’m studying for my board certification as a lactation consultant. I have a husband, 3 kids, one cat (who we named Albus Dumbledore because of his white beard), and an Aussiedoodle named Zoey. If I’m not working or hanging out with my family, you’ll find me listening to podcasts and audiobooks, practicing pottery, watching reality TV, or doing yoga. I also fancy myself one day winning Star Baker on The Great British Bake-Off. But I’m not British, so that’s one hurdle!
HOW DID YOU COME TO DOULA WORK?
I was one of the first of my friends to get pregnant, so naturally I had lots of questions! I began researching pregnancy, labor, birth, and newborn care and just became fascinated with how many options there were. Even just looking at pregnancy, there was so much conflicting information about what was safe and what wasn’t. I learned that I loved talking about these subjects with anyone who would listen! All of my births were drastically different from one another, and I knew I wanted to be part of supporting families as they navigated these huge life changes.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST OR FIND MOST REWARDING ABOUT DOULA WORK?
So many things! Besides seeing all the squishy babies, I love checking in with clients in the weeks after their baby is born to see how they’re doing. It’s always this beautiful mix of exhaustion, spit-up, and doubt, mixed with love, wonderment, and pride. All of these things are so formative to who we are as parents and it is such a special privilege to be able to witness that.
WHAT ARE YOUR SPECIALTIES OR AREAS OF PARTICULAR PASSION?
As a childbirth educator and doula combination, I feel particularly passionate that all families go into their birth and postpartum experiences armed with choices and information. This is your birth, and you get to call the shots! I also have experience with VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean), pregnancy after loss, teen parents, military families, single parents, IVF, trauma-informed care, planned Cesarean births, and out-of-hospital births.
