TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF

Hi everyone!! I’m Micaela! I have been practicing as a postpartum doula for almost 2 years and I’ve been a certified postpartum doula for almost a year! I am a single momma to my 3 year old son named Tobias! If I’m not chasing my wild child around, you’ll find me cuddled up on the couch watching some reality tv, maybe reading a good book, or in a coffee shop enjoying an over priced coffee. I also enjoy being outdoors, taking my son anywhere that will get all of his energy out, or hanging out with some like minded friends who are apart of my village as much as I’m apart of theirs!

HOW DID YOU COME TO DOULA WORK?

I had my son as a single, young, 18 year old woman. I was incredibly lost and didn’t know what I was doing(even though I had taken care of countless babies) I didn’t know how to handle it on my own. Megan Taylor was my doula and that was my first look into what support looks like during childbirth and even after!! I had already known I loved children and working with babies( I have been doing it since I was 13) but what I didn’t know was how much I enjoyed serving families and mamas who are stuck and exhausted just like I once was. My calling became clear to me once I began my relationship with Christ! His calling on my life and doing his good work is why I decided to become certified, so I could continue living out my passion and serve so many other women just like I was once served!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST OR FIND MOST REWARDING ABOUT DOULA WORK?

Oh boy, where do I start! Of course I love and adore babies! BUT what I enjoy most is helping a sweet new mama to feel like herself again. Getting to pray over her, pray over her baby, serve her, feed her, encourage her! My favorite thing to say is “my job is to hold up the mama, so she can hold up her baby” I also just love to see a mamas strength and vulnerability, the true beauty of motherhood. What a privilege it is to get to see that and be apart of that over and over again! 

WHAT ARE YOUR SPECIALTIES OR AREAS OF PARTICULAR PASSION?

As a postpartum doula, a single mom and a sexual assault victim , my passion is to always make sure a mom is heard, helped and understood first and foremost! My passion is to just serve, to always have a servants heart! No matter the job, no matter what I’m being asked, I will always DO! I will also always support teen parents and families that are struggling in motherhood/fatherhood, because I understand! I’ve been there! I also have experience with preemies, twins and special needs kiddos!
